Inner child

A beautiful poem I chanced upon today. it's worth the read.

I feel bad for those who lost their inner child.
The world needs more adults with young heart, a brave heart, one that's excited and enthusiastic about the wonders of our magnificent world.
People who believe in miracles, who believe they can make them happen too.
People who can stomach the horrors they witness everyday and give love even when they are never the recipients.
People who are kind enough to forgive everyone around them and forgive themselves too when it's the hardest to do so. People who are crazy enough to want to make a difference, even crazier to work for it.

A sea of Elephant Gods and a trip to paradise

As a city is overtaken by a sea of  Elephant Gods, the sounding of drums beckons me to escape this chaos, I took refuge in my home away from home - 'my little slice of paradise' this weekend. A place where my terrace garden comes alive with luscious green foliage, grey herons sit perched precariously on nests filled with hungry fledglings, I feel one with nature and so blissfully unaware of the religious fervour that grips the city.

I packed my paints, canvases and art supplies and spent a delightfully refreshing weekend slowly soaking in what nature has to offer. With hot cups of tea to fuel the engine, I sat on my terrace under a pale blue sky with only butterflies as a welcome distraction. What would have otherwise been a stressful weekend turned into paradise and a very fruitful exercise indeed.

Later that evening I took a stroll down memory lane, a large isolated, greenery filled patch known to only a hand few, where the sound of crickets and the croaking of frogs filled the fresh rain kissed air. Have you ever heard the crackle of electric wires?- as they sway like swings abandoned by impatient children, it's a surreal feeling walking below them, so much power just waiting to be unleashed, to light up homes and lives...

Feel like an electric wire today as I sway to the rhythm of life, careless, unabashed at the stares shot my way at this display of arrogant oblivion.

Holding my dreams close to my heart I swing higher and higher to the point of tipping over! Dreams that come alive when the world sleeps and the mind wanders into the wonderful unknown. Where magic takes over and reality is but a distant blur. In the twilight I sit with arms stretched out in the hopes of touching delicate candy floss clouds, I catch myself thinking silly thoughts - How wonderful would it be,to be able to take a ride on a wispy white cloud?!

Love the crackling electric wires for weaving dreams built on webs of futures untold. Love that I took the time to create a space where I could work and relax at the same time.

Life of Death by Marsha Onderstijn

The day Death fell in love by Marsha Onderstijn is one of the most heartwarming depictions of death. I love the simple and beautiful illustrations and the story and perspective is truly eye opening and priceless. It will make you look at death in a completely new light, a must watch!

A seasons change away

via GIPHY

I would watch you endlessly,
Let hours wilt away,
I long for you relentlessly,
You are but a lifetimes wait,
Like a flower in bloom on a warm summers day,
You come and go as the seasons change.

Cloudbursts of creativity!

With the monsoon winds breathing life into the city, as dusty leaves now glisten with sparkling raindrops, like strings of pearls dancing to the melodious pitter patter. The rains have a wonderfully cleansing effect on me. The rains to me, are a heady mix of the scent of flowers in bloom, the wafting smell of freshly brewed tea and mouth watering chocolate chip cookies that keep me company as I allow myself to let the beauty this season brings be all encompassing.

Every monsoon I make it a point, to step put of the house and get completely drenched in the downpour, there's nothing like looking up at the skies as they burst and fill you  and the earth with the promise of new life and possibilities. I've you've never done this I really recommend you do.

As the sound of raindrops sing songs of their travels across oceans and seas, I can blissfully retreat into my haven with friends, hot pakodas and laughter filled evenings or on days where I seek solitude, pick up a book and whisk myself into magical lands and wonderful tales all waiting to be uncovered.

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ....

Chanced upon this today! Love it!!
A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ....
Enough money within her control to move out...
And rent a place of her own
even if she never wants to
or needs to...
Something perfect to wear if the employer
or date of her dreams wants to See Her in an hour...
A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...
A youth she's content to leave behind....
A past juicy enough that she's looking forward to
retelling it in her Old Age....
A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE .
A set of screwdrivers,
a cordless drill, and a black lace bra...
One friend who always makes her laugh...
And one Who lets her cry...
A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ....
A good piece of furniture not previously owned
by anyone else in her Family...
Eight matching plates,
wine glasses with stems,
And a recipe for a meal that will make
her guests feel Honored...
A feeling of control over her destiny...
EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
How to fall in love without losing herself..
HOW TO QUIT A JOB,
BREAK UP WITH A LOVER,
AND CONFRONT A FRIEND WITHOUT
RUINING THE FRIENDSHIP...
When to try harder...
And WHEN TO WALK AWAY...
EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
That she can't change the length of her calves,
The width of her hips,
or the nature of her parents..
That her childhood may not have been perfect...
But it's over...
EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
What she would and wouldn't do for love or more...
How to live alone...
Even if she doesn't like it...
EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
Whom she can trust,
Whom she can't,
And why she shouldn't take it personally...
EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
Where to go...
Be it to her best friend's kitchen table...
Or a charming inn in the woods...
When her soul needs soothing...
EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
What she can and can't accomplish in a day...
A month...
And a year... ॐ

Barbed wired fences

Like the tide sweeping to and fro on a sandy shore, there are lines that we draw and re-draw in all the relationships we have in our life, be it our family, friends, lovers, colleagues, acquaintances... Lines like barbed wire fences they dig into the flesh when crossed, leaving the sting of a salted wound, peppered with depletion and exhaustion.

It feels like a weird concoction of amusing and confusing, how we let something go one day and will hold it against someone on another. I've caught myself doing that on more than one occasion and it continues to baffle me!

The cacophony

She was the hurricane that hit the shore,
A whirlwind of energy about to implode,
Lighting bolts and whirring winds,
Caught in a cacophony of what could have been.

Project Life- Pay it forward!

Last year I did the 'Lyrics project' where I asked anyone and everyone to send me a line of song they connected with[ preferably not the chorus]  and I offered to paint/sketch my rendition of the line. It was free like all things that have deep meaning should be! So with 2016 already almost a month old I thought it wouldn't be a bad idea to resurrect  last years projects in a new avatar.

So this year I won't just be doing lyrics of a song, but quotes that mean something to you. So if you'd like me sketch or paint a line that has a deep connection with you, do drop me a line via the contact me tab or comment on this post and I'll do the needful. There are no strings attached, it's free and it's all about spreading the love! If you could in return do something nice for someone else consider it even, if not it's still OK

The lil colourful book on the right is my last years lyrics project book, clearly ran out of space, new book and new artwork!!

The Happy Jar

There's something I decided to do at the fag end of 2015, last year was a potent concoction of thrilling and taxing, filled with the wild highs and the inevitable lows that tend to follow. Through the crazy-ass rollercoaster I've grown to love, something I realised along the way, was people are bloody amazing and do the  most selfless and genuine things for you,

when you least expect it. It's all about the small gestures, the things that they might have said or done that I hope never to forget. After all it's these small things that make life wonderful.

Here's the "Happy Jar",filled with little notes and  all the little things that have a really big place and meaning in my life. A heart filled thank you to every single person who has said and done things to make my life beautiful. I hope by the end of 2016 to have done something in return for you when you least expect it!!

Spreading the happiness!!

I feel like an electric wire today as i sway to the rhythm of life, carefree and ready for a new adventure!!

Holding my dreams close to my heart I swing higher and higher to the point of tipping over!!Dreams that come alive when the world sleeps and the mind wanders into the wonderful world of the unknown...Where magic takes over and reality is so far away!In the twilight i sit with arms stretched high in the hopes of touching delicate candy floss clouds!Take a ride on a whispy white cloud to new possibilities...

Love the crackling of electric wires, the weaving of dreams built on webs of a future untold!!

You will never know until you try!!

I have the worlds cutest maid ever!!She's new and speaks in a weird dialect of Marathi I can barely understand.Today I was making myself a cup of tea[one of the very many i drink in a day] and asked her if she'd like some, her reaction was so pure and strange at the same time, she looked away coyly and started blushing. For half a second I wondered if she understood me correctly, didn't she think i was suggesting something else? I was only offering her a cup of tea! With the immense need to clarify any confusion I told her I'm making myself a cup of tea and I'm going to make you one,to which she giggled and went back to work.

With a pipping hot cup of tea ready, I handed her the cup and plonked myself down on the nearest chair signally her to take a seat as well.To my astonishment she shook her head and sat down on the floor, now I was the uncomfortable one and decided to join her on the floor, which in turn made her uncomfortable.

We could have gone on and on, for eternity switching places to sit.It beaks my heat to see someone living in a urban metropolitan  city like Mumbai, feel so unworthy and think so little of herself that she can't sit on a chair in the house she works for. That got me thinking about a lot of the things we do or don't do in life, there are so many times we don't say what's on our mind, express how we feel or don't do things, simply because we don't think we are worthy of that.

I used to be someone who couldn't think twice about talking to someone and expressing myself, but after a while and a couple of good hard knocks life felt the need to send my way, something in me changed.I wasn't so surefooted, always questioning my thoughts and never fulling expressing myself. But off late I've decided to dispose of the veil, that i thought protected me from other people and go back to the person I was, just because I was Worth It and owed it to myself!

The last couple of weeks have been pretty weirdly interesting,so me at my gung ho best, decided to quit the project I was working on,after meeting a very dynamic and inspiring person who i hope to work with and learn so much from in the future, plunge into the turbulent unknown with no life jacket, push myself, transcend the boundaries of my mind and just go with my gut.

I've also taken the chance and asked some really interesting people if i could meet with them to have a quick talk[most of these people I barely know or have met enos ago] knowing all to well that they might just say, sorry love I just don't want to,or don't have the time for it.So far every single person I've asked has said yes and I've had the immense pleasure of engaging in some really insightful and interesting conversations.People have shared their stories, bared their souls and connected so honestly for fleeting moments i caught myself thinking am i worthy of their time and blatant honesty especially from people i barely even know.

To a future, of hopefully less blunders and more interesting and honest conversation!!And most importantly to my adorable maid its now become my life's mission to make you a cup of tea and sit with you everyday, till you are comfortable sitting on chair and sipping a cup of tea with me.

The bubble life

We create  little bubbles of sanity in this chaotic, insanely fast paced city, for me my bubbles comprise of family, close friends, moments spent alone listening to music or doing what i  love ,which is painting.Every once in a while there comes along a bubble burster, one of those people who love to create drama and disruption.Last weekended i happened to bump into an old friend who said something quite hurtful[I'm going to give him the  benefit of doubt and say unintentionally] but like any sensitive person it shook me up inside resulting a flurry of thoughts about whats become of humanity?can you really trust anyone anymore?why should i be nice to mean people?

I hate when i get into this zone,I'm normally quite an optimist, luckily over the past two days i've had the absolute honour to meet or talk to some amazing people old and new, who've gone out of their way to be nice!!Its so refreshing and so simple,i don't understand why we don't do it more often!!

I've decided i have to value myself and my time a little more, life's really too short to indulge or waste a moment of my time keeping the company of such people.

Here's to saying no and not giving two hoots!!And living a happily in my little bubbles of joy!!

Happy tired

It's been a heady crazy past couple of weeks, with bulk orders, customised orders and of course the very  very last minute orders. The project I've taken up isn't relenting either, with meetings, meetings and more meetings, launches and get togethers. On the social life front, things seem to be following toe with birthday celebrations, catching up with long lost friends who decided to show up in Mumbai after eons and other commitments I couldn't weasel my way out of!! It sits well though that all of this chaos and madness ended with a lovely road trip to Pune, one that I've been planning to do for a long long time to meet a very close friend of mine who just had a super adorable baby girl!!

I've love getting out of the city!I haven't landed up doing as much of it as I'd like, it makes so much a difference to just get out of this chaotic city, even if its just a short drive to Pune and back.Suddenly I feel all set to take on the blows and punches the next week might bring with it.

This trip had it fair share of drama,my friend who was supposed to drive us down drank too much the night before,[the mallu he is!!]other friends who were supposed to join us made some last minute change of plans. After  much banging on the door at 7:00am,huffing and puffing and spewing the most innovative of swear words, a sleep deprived person could come up with at that hour,we all made it to Pune in one piece, with loud music blasting in the car and everyone singing at the top of their lungs[pretty much making up the lyrics as we went along]After a lovely time spent playing with little Sia,it's the mid-night conversations I love the most.I'm not sure guys rock it as well as we girls do, but suddenly when the lights are turned off and everyone in their PJ's lounging around on the bed conversation invariably takes a turn for more heart-felt.It's these small moments in life I cherish the most and live for!!

What made the trip all the more magical was ,on the drive back we were greeted with a  delightful downpour. There's something about the rain that has this ethereal magical feeling of washing away all your worries. So with raindrops seeming to take on a life of their own on our windscreen and the music taking on a more contemplative and melancholic garb I returned to Mumbai a content happy trooper!!

Children of the stars

We are children of the stars,
Heads resting lightly on natures bosom,
Hearts beating in tandem with our thoughts,
Embracing the world with open arms,
Clinging only to what we hold true,
Spinning dreams in broad daylight,
Casting nets everynight to make sure they don't float away,
We walk the earth effortlessly unplanned,
No compass in hand just our hearts to follow.
