Breaking the mould!

I hate being boxed in, just the other day I was having a pretty intense conversation with one of my retailers, he's a super cool guy and we've built a relationship over the years, made a buck or two, interacted, debated, fought and  reconciled.

As conversation progressed, we went back and forth about a whole bunch of business ideas, new ventures and possibilities . One thing led to another and we got talking about topics other that art. It was this stark comment that resonates till date, he told me 'You are an artist and you only understand art', well that might be true, but I'm so much more that the paintings I paint!

This is where I feel thwarted! Painting and art is just one facet of who I am, it's definitely not all encompassing! It's definitely not my calling card.  When you've established yourself in a particular filed, it becomes a mammoth task to break out of that mould or for people to understand that every person is multifaceted.  In an ideal world it shouldn't have to be a sales spiel of sorts every time you indulge in something that you are passionate about, but isn't something you've done for donkeys years.

Breaking free from the shackles of preconceived notions is frustrating and infuriating

Where the light hits the bottle just right!

Hola!
The Mexican theme project I've been working on  for the spanking new Mexican restaurant in Bandra, over the last couple of months has been a total blast. Not only do I love Mexican art but the bright colours fit in perfectly with my style and choice of colours!

It's always a delight to see your artwork clicked by good photographers, here are some of my personal favourite bottle art pics from Uba Tuba.

Order amidst the chaos!

A weekend packed with friends, fun, lotsa love and celebrations can leave you hating the Monday morning blues!! There's no better upper than handing over a customised design and watching the persons face light up as they peel away the bubble wrap!!

This Monday was just that, have been working on a customised piece which became a tad bit tricky because the customer wanted quite a few elements incorporated in the design. After a little hair pulling and downing a couple of drinks order was found in the chaos!!

There's the final customised design!! I'm happy, she's happy couldn't ask for more!!

The Day of The Dead!

I love Mexican culture, the vibrant colour palette, everything from their decor, their clothes and even their food!! One of my favourite Mexican themes is the 'Day of the Dead' or 'El Dia de los Muertos'. I guess I'm lucky enough to get to work on two things I have a strong connect with, one being music and the other
the Day of the Dead. Have been working on this beautiful guitar for a while, here's a pic of the work in progress, finished pics coming soon!! Can't wait to strum this baby once it's finished!

A picture paints a thousand words

Sometime last year I started a lil project called the 'Lyrics Project' where if you gave me a line of a song [preferably not the chorus] I'd illustrate it for you! Psssttt for free. This year I thought it's time to bring it back with a twist, it's not just song lyrics but any quote that strikes a chord with you. Let's just call it the 'A picture speaks a thousand words"

So drop me a line via the contact me form with the quote/ lyrics and I'll do the needful!

Here are some of the artworks I've done so far, the bottle is a customised request by a friend ,with his own personal quote!

KEITH URBAN | YOU'LL THINK OF ME

Doodle me!!

Finally finished this customised pair of hand-painted doodle sneakers! I love to doodle and scribble!! I land up doing almost anytime I'm idle, the dearth of paper clearly has never stopped the doodler in me. Every once in a while  I subject a unsuspecting friends body part to the wrath of a ink pen as you can see.

Moonbeams and dancing feet

The moonlight lit up the dark alleys in her mind,
As she danced alone under it's watchful eye,
To songs she'd never heard,
The rustling wind and the babbling brook,
Clutching closely to her heart a new beat,
She finally found her feet.

Her body swayed as she came undone,
In her raven hair,
A thousand stars caught flashing by,
Glistening sweat trickling down her neck,
She finally found her feet,
It's only here she could really be free.

The gift of an ordinary day
